Opening sequence filmed outside and inside Sydney Opera House. A massive production effort and Lionel Richie made a surprise appearance which was extremely cool.

Stan Walker and Liza Minnelli - Australian Idol Stage and Screen 2009

Stan performs "We Will Rock You". Includes workshop with Liza Minnelli. This is one of those Idol moments which can excite, mystify or terrify an arranger. In this case, possibly all three. At the workshop I was asked to give this classic rock song a twist and we eventually settled on a Middle Eastern flavour. I'm OK with the arrangement and a load of people liked it. Others think it verged on sacrilege. Such are the joys of television.
